Colorful Wildflower Wedding at Martineau Belle Playa | A Vieques Destination Wedding
Some couples hire a wedding planner after the proposal.
Sol hired me before Jeno had even proposed.
That’s how committed she was to creating the perfect destination wedding in Vieques.
From the very beginning, Sol knew exactly what she wanted: a colorful, flower-filled wedding at Martineau Belle Playathat felt romantic, immersive, and wildly different from the typical tropical wedding aesthetic.
And honestly? She completely pulled it off.
Planning a Destination Wedding in Vieques, Puerto Rico
When couples begin planning a destination wedding in Vieques, one of the most important decisions is choosing the right venue. Sol and Jeno chose Martineau Belle Playa for its beachfront exclusivity, private villa setting, and ability to host an immersive multi-day wedding experience.
One of the things couples love most about weddings in Vieques is the feeling of privacy and connection. Unlike large resorts, villa weddings in Vieques allow guests to truly settle into island life together.
Sol spent the morning getting ready upstairs in the villa’s master suite with her bridesmaids while our team transformed the property below into a colorful wildflower-inspired wedding design.
Wildflower Wedding Inspiration Meets Caribbean Beachfront
Sol’s floral inspiration was one of my favorite design challenges as a Vieques wedding planner.
Instead of traditional tropical florals, she envisioned something inspired by mountain meadows and wildflower fields — layered blooms in every imaginable color with a more organic, whimsical feel.
The flowers were everything to Sol.
We designed the reception around two long dinner tables set along the pool deck overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Bistro lights were hung overhead to create warmth and ambience as the sun went down and guests transitioned into dinner and dancing beneath the stars.
And yes — we skipped the tent.
For a Caribbean destination wedding, that’s always a bold decision. Weather in Vieques can change quickly, and tenting is often recommended for beachfront weddings.
But after carefully tracking weather systems and island conditions all week, I made the call to leave the pool deck open to the sky.
It was absolutely the right decision.
The warm breeze, glowing lights, and unobstructed ocean views became one of the most magical parts of the entire wedding design.
Beachfront Ceremony at Martineau Belle Playa
Their ceremony took place directly on the beach in front of the villa, continuing the same colorful wildflower aesthetic from the reception design.
Against the soft sand and turquoise water of Vieques, the vibrant floral installations felt beautifully unexpected — a perfect contrast to the tropical landscape surrounding them.
One of the things I love most about planning weddings in Vieques is helping couples blend their personal vision with the natural beauty of the island instead of feeling locked into traditional “beach wedding” expectations.
Sol’s wedding was the perfect example of that balance.
The Wedding Cake Flower Disaster That Became Better Than the Original Plan
Now for the most authentic “Vieques wedding” story imaginable.
Sol had specifically ordered dried flowers for her wedding cake. We shipped them to the island ahead of time…
…and they disappeared somewhere in the mysterious chaos that is Caribbean mail delivery.
Classic island life.
So on the wedding day, we improvised.
I ended up scavenging gardens, island greenery, and even pulling from the fresh flowers we had already flown in for the wedding. Instead of dried flowers, we carefully pressed fresh blooms directly into the frosting.
And honestly?
It looked even better than the original plan.
The colors were brighter, the flowers looked fresher, and the cake perfectly captured the organic wildflower aesthetic Sol had envisioned from the beginning.
Wildflower lesson officially learned.
A Pool Party Ending Straight Out of a Vieques Wedding Dream
The after party quickly turned into exactly the kind of celebration destination weddings in Vieques are known for.
At some point during the night, Sol ended up in the pool wearing her wedding dress while guests danced beneath the bistro lights surrounding the villa.
Barefoot dancing. Caribbean air. Ocean views. Music echoing through the property. A bride laughing in the pool in full wedding attire.
Honestly, it was the perfect ending to a wildly joyful wedding weekend in Vieques.
Why Couples Choose Vieques for Destination Weddings

Sol and Jeno embraced all of it — from trusting the process to rolling with island surprises to ending the night jumping into the pool fully dressed.

wild, colorful, beautiful, joyful, and unforgettable.
